Bill Doleman Joins Lincoln Saltdogs

(Lincoln, NE) - The Lincoln Saltdogs announced today that they have hired Bill Doleman as the team's Director of Broadcasting and play-by-play announcer replacing Len Clark, who left the organization in February.
For Doleman, the full-time position marks his return to the Saltdogs broadcast booth as he and John Baylor formed the team's original broadcast crew from 2001 through 2004. At the time, he was employed by Three Eagles Communications the parent company of KFOR, the rights holder for Lincoln Pro Baseball, Inc. "Bill Doleman is a quality person and a great broadcaster with a wealth of experience," commented Tim Utrup, Lincoln Saltdogs Vice President and General Manager. "We are excited to have Bill doing our play-by-play again and he will be a welcomed addition to our full time staff."
The 40-year old Doleman is a veteran sportscaster who began his career in 1989 as a play-by-play announcer for the Nebraska ETV Network. Since then he has called a variety of sports on the regional and national levels for ABC, ESPN, Fox Sports Net and CSTV among others. He recently finished his 13th season calling Big 12 Conference basketball on ESPN Regional and he was a fixture on ESPNU's coverage of volleyball and Missouri Valley Conference basketball. He has also called games for the Mountain West Conference the past four years. A former Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year, Doleman worked in a free-lance capacity at HuskerVision in the mid-1990s and then served as Sports Director at KTBU in Houston, Texas for two years.
In joining the Saltdogs organization, Doleman leaves Three Eagles where he was employed for five years most recently serving as the Program Director for KLMS/ESPN 1480 and host of "The Average Joe Sports Show."
"The decision to leave Three Eagles wasn't an easy one because we accomplished so much with ESPN 1480 and Average Joe plus all of the people are great to work with," Doleman said. "But at the same time, the offer to join the Saltdogs was too good to pass up. It's an opportunity to call play-by-play, which is why I got into the business, spend more time with my family, and work for a first-class organization. To go from one great company to another and do what you love to do is an incredible blessing. I'm really grateful to Jim Abel, Charlie Meyer and Tim Utrup for making it happen."
In addition to his duties in the Saltdogs booth, Doleman will also handle the team's communications and media relations department. He will also continue to host "Goin' Deep with Ron Brown," a Christian-sports talk show, on ESPN 1480 as well as his free-lance television play-by-play work. A native of Fairbury, Neb., he and his wife, Kim, have a two-year-old daughter, Reagan Claire, and they live in Lincoln.
The Lincoln Saltdogs, members of the American Association of Independent League Professional Baseball, will begin their sixth season of professional baseball on May 11, 2006 in Pensacola with the first pitch scheduled at 6:35 pm. The first home game at Haymarket Park is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23rd against the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 pm.
