Chivas USA travels to Columbus

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, September 26, 2005) - Chivas USA (3-21-5, 14 pts.) resume training tomorrow Tuesday at The Home Depot Center ahead of Saturday night's game against the Columbus Crew (10-14-4, 34 pts.) on Saturday October 1, at 4:30 p.m. PT (TV/DELAYED: KAZA Azteca 54; RADIO: KMXE Radiovisa 830; WEB: www.CDCHIVASUSA.com). The match will mark the Red-and-White's first game at Crew Stadium.

LASTMATCH: The Crew will host Chivas USA after beating Real Salt Lake last Saturday, and now have a record of 10-14-4 (W-L-T) for 34 points and sixth place of the Eastern Conference. Chivas USA, for its part, fell 3-1 at The Home Depot Center against the Colorado Rapids and now have a record of 3-21-5 (W-L-T) for 14 points and sixth place in the Western Conference.

CHIVAS WITHOUT BORDERS: Chivas USA proudly announced on Friday that a Chivas Select Team featuring players from Chivas Guadalajara and Chivas USA will face Mexican First Division side Santos Laguna in Santa Barbara, California in a benefit for hurricane victims in the Gulf Coast region. This unique exhibition match, presented by Chivas USA in conjunction with Santa Barbara Soccer Entertainment, will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. PT at Harder Stadium on the Campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara and will be broadcast live in the United States by Fox Sports en Español, Fox Soccer Channel and Radiovisa 830 AM, and worldwide by Fox Sports Latin America, Fox Sports World Canada and Fox Sports Middle East/Africa. All proceeds from this historic game, which marks the first time players from Chivas USA and sister club Chivas Guadalajara will play together on the same team, will go to the hurricane relief efforts of the American Red Cross in the Gulf Coast region.

CHIVAS USA RESERVES DRAW: With two goals from forward Isaac Romo, the Chivas USA Reserves (1-8-1, 4 pts.) earned their first draw of Major League Soccer's inaugural Reserve Division, tying the Colorado Rapids Reserves (3-4-3, 12 pts.) 2-2 today at The Home Depot Center's Track and Field Stadium. Romo scored in the 26th minute off a header following an Héctor Cuadros freekick, and then converted a 43rd-minute penalty kick to pull the hosts even at 2-2. Luchi González scored both goals for the visitors, firing home a shot following a Sasha Gotsmanov corner kick in the 7th minute and tapping in a rebound off a Wolde Harris penalty kick that was saved by Sergio García in the 18th minute. The Chivas USA Reserves have two more games left in the 2005 season, first they will visit the Columbus Crew reserves on Sunday October 1 and then they host the MetroStars on Sunday October 16.

GUADALAJARA DEFEATS SAN LUIS: Chivas USA's sister team, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, won its first game under new manager Javier Azcargorta, claiming a 2-1 victory in their visit to San Luis, on Matchday 9 of the Mexican Apertura 2005 season. Next game for Chivas is Veracruz, at Estadio Jalisco in a midweek game.

BRADINJURED: Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan was injured in the 81st minute of last week's loss to Colorado, when he came out to save a goal attempt by Colorado's Colombian striker Diego Serna, crashing face-first into his left knee, fracturing his right frontal sinus and nasal cavities. Despite the injury, Brad played all 90 minutes and will see specialist Dr. Robert Adair Wednesday, September 28.

FUTBOLITO: MLS's Futbolito tournament comes to Southern California next Saturday October 1, at Centennial Park in the city of Santa Ana, California. RIDGLINE RAFFLE: On Sunday October 16, day of 'La Celebración del Pueblo' (Celebration of the People) a 2006 Honda Ridgeline will be raffled off to one lucky fan after the game between Chivas USA and the MetroStars. To participate, fans will have until halftime of Chivas USA vs. MetroStars game on October 16, to sign up for the raffle. MINI-CHIVAGIRLS: The ChivaGirls are offering a clinic for Mini-ChivaGirls, where young women from 3 to 15 years old will be taught to dance and perform cheering routines. Participants will have a chance to take the field with the ChivaGirls during select Chivas USA home games, and will also be able to dance on the ChivaTown stage during halftime.
