Daytona Tortugas News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla-Credit the Daytona Cubs for a spirited come-from-behind victory on Wednesday afternoon, but don't forget to credit Mother Nature with the save.

The Cubs overcame a 2-0 deficit with a three-run seventh inning off of Palm Beach Cardinals starter Mike Parisi (10-11), before a heavy rainstorm crept in and washed out the final two innings as the game was called and the Cubs were awarded the victory by a final of 3-2.

Catcher Jake Fox led the late Daytona charge as he stroked a two-run homerun to left-centerfield in the seventh to finally put the Cubs on the scoreboard. Second baseman Enrique Cruz later added an RBI double in the same frame to knock in right fielder Jeff Culpepper for what later became the winning run.

New righty Michael Phelps (1-1) pitched the final two innings in relief of starter Juan Mateo and was credited with his first win as a Daytona Cub.

With the victory the Cubs moved back to the .500 mark as they improved to 32-32, as the Cardinals dropped to 38-28.

Daytona will now prepare for their final series of the regular season as they begin the first of four games against the Brevard County Manatees on Thursday night. Lefty Yorkin Ferreras (3-4, 5.07 ERA) will take the mound at Space Coast Stadium as he faces Manatee right-hander Tim Dillard (11-10, 2.56 ERA).

First pitch of Game 1 is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
