Nationals News:

UNCLE SLAM VOTED THE #1 MOST COLORFUL CHARACTER IN PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY

Uncle Slam, the popular new mascot of the Potomac Nationals, has been named the #1 Most Colorful Character in Prince William County in a poll of readers conducted by The Manassas Journal Messenger and The Potomac News.

Uncle Slam, in his patriotic red, white and blue ensemble, was unveiled prior to the game on April 30, 2005 and became an instant fan favorite. His irresistible smile and magnetic personality have made him a huge hit with kids, and adults, at Pfitzner Stadium this season. He can be seen cheering on the P-Nats at all home games and he likes to shake hands, sign autographs and greet fans before, during and after games. Uncle Slam also makes appearances throughout the community, including visits to schools, hospitals, birthday parties, parades and many other fun events.

To book an appearance by Uncle Slam, contact Maureen Connolly, Director of Community Relations, at 703-590-2311 ext. 224.

JASON STEVENSON NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW

Jason Stevenson delivers for the Nationals

Potomac Nationals left-handed pitcher Jason Stevenson was been named Pitcher of the week for the week of August 15-21. This is the second week in a row that Stevenson has been awarded the honor.

Stevenson went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts last week. He went 8.1 innings allowing only three runs on six hits with six strikeouts at Frederick on August 15th. He topped that performance with a complete game against Kinston this past Saturday, August 20th . He allowed only one run on five hits while striking out eight in the Nationals 7-1 victory over the Indians. Stevenson's record with the Nationals improves to 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA for the season.

Winston-Salem outfielder Noah Hall was named the Carolina League Batter of the Week.

Hall went 11-for-25 for the week with a .440 batting average, .880 slugging percentage and .563 on-base-percentage. He hit two home runs and five doubles. Hall also scored nine runs, drove in three and stole two bases in seven games against Wilmington and at Salem.

THE P-NATS SEASON WINDS DOWN

Aug 17 Frederick 5 Potomac 4 Salomon Manriquez hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to give the Nationals a 4-2 lead until the eighth when they Keys would tie it up at four. The Nationals couldn't hold off Frederick's Mario Delgado as he hit a solo shot for the win in the ninth.

Aug 18 Frederick 9 Potomac 2 Frank Diaz had an RBI that scored Desmond for the P-Nats first run in the seventh followed by Kory Casto's RBI single that scored Jason Belcher.

Aug 19 Kinston 4 Potomac 2 Greg Thissen was back in the lineup after being on the DL and went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. LHP Brett Price pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits and three walks and he struck out eight.

Aug 20 Potomac 7 Kinston 1 Jason Stevenson pitched a complete game allowing only one run on five hits. He walked none and struck out eight. Offensively, Casto, Shawn Norris and Josh Whitesell all homered in the game.

Aug 21 Kinston 3 Potomac 1 The game was held at a scoreless tie until the seventh when Chad Chop singled to score Vince Rooi and put the Nationals on the board. Unfortunately, the Nationals wouldn't hold the lead long as Kinston went onto the win.

Aug 23 Salem 8 Potomac 2 Norris had a double in the fifth that knocked in Chop and Doc Brooks for the 2-1 lead until Salem came back in the sixth.

The Nationals will continue the three-game series tonight starting at 7:05PM. LHP Mike Hinckley is the probable starter for the P-Nats. The Avalanche will send RHP Matt Albers to counter Hinckley. The series finale is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 and then the Nationals head to Kinston where they will play a four game set before going to Myrtle Beach for three games.
