
McGowan to start for Toronto

Manchester, NH- The Toronto Blue Jays announced that RHP Dustin McGowan will start against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Rogers Centre. Game time is scheduled for 4:07 PM.
The 23-year-old McGowan will become the 7th Fisher Cats player to reach the Major Leagues and 6th to make his Major League debut after playing for New Hampshire. McGowan began the 2004 season as New Hampshire's ace, going 2-0 with a 4.06 ERA in 6 starts before undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and missing the rest of the season. He returned on June 1 of this year with the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, where he went 0-1 with a 4.29 ERA in 5 starts. He struck out 20 and walked 5 in 21.0 innings pitched. He moved up to Double-A New Hampshire on June 24 and was 0-2 with a 3.34 ERA in 6 starts. He had 33 strikeouts and 10 walks in 35.0 innings with the Fisher Cats. McGowan was the Blue Jays 1st round pick (33rd overall) in the 2000 draft.
RHP Adam Peterson, LHP Gustavo Chacin, and RHP Brandon League all made their Major League debuts with Toronto last year after playing for the Fisher Cats in their inaugural season. RHP Kevin Frederick also played for Toronto after playing with the Fisher Cats last year, although he had previous Major League experience with the Twins in 2002.
INF Aaron Hill made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays this season after spending all of last season in New Hampshire. And OF Tyrell Godwin made his big league debut this year with the Washington Nationals after spending 2004 in New Hampshire.
