Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The New York Mets have announced that righthanded pitcher Steve Trachsel will make a rehab start for the Binghamton Mets on Saturday, when they host the Akron Aeros at NYSEG Stadium.

A 10-year Major League veteran, Trachsel has been on the disabled list since spring training, when he underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc. The San Diego, CA native was 12-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 33 starts for the Mets in 2004, and has posted double-digit victory totals in all four of his seasons with New York. Trachsel began his Major League career with the Chicago Cubs in 1993 and was named to the National League All-Star team while with the Cubs in 1996. He's also pitched for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Toronto Blue Jays.

Saturday's appearance will be Trachsel's second in a B-Mets uniform. He made a rehab start at NYSEG Stadium on July 16th, 2002, giving up an unearned run over 5 2/3 innings and picking up a win over the Altoona Curve as he worked his way back from a strained right trapezius (upper back) muscle. Trachsel's made two other rehab appearances with High-A St. Lucie over the last month, combining to allow one earned run over 6 2/3 innings. He will be the first New York Met to rehab with Binghamton this year.

After two games in Altoona tonight and Thursday afternoon, the Binghamton Mets return to NYSEG Stadium Friday to start a three-game series against the Akron Aeros. Friday and Saturday's games will both start at 7:05 p.m. The series concludes with a 1:30 p.m. game Sunday afternoon.
