Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
July 13, 2005 - The Aberdeen IronBirds (5-16) continued to have difficulty scoring runs tonight as they were shutout for the 4th time in their last 6 games. The 8-0 loss to the Staten Island Yankees (15-5) marked the sixth consecutive loss for the âBirds and the ninth consecutive win for the Yankees. The IronBirds were put down early as they went down 1-0 in the first inning.
Possibly Aberdeen's most reliable starting pitcher, Ryan Schwabe pitched 3.1 innings giving up 2 runs, both of which were unearned. When Schwabe left the game in the fourth inning, reliever Kyle Boehm faced a bases loaded situation with only one out. Boehm snuffed the Staten Island rally by striking out the next two batters to end the inning.
However, Boehm's luck changed in the fifth inning when he gave up five earned runs to put the IronBirds down 7-0. Boehm was relieved by Russ Brocato, who quieted Staten Island's bats as he pitched two scoreless innings while striking out two.
Offensive standout Nolan Reimold kept his bat hot as he went 2-3 with a double and a single. Kyle Dahlberg, who has been struggling recently, laced a double to deep right-center field to get off the schnide.
Game 2 of the 3 game set will be Thursday night at 7:05 at Ripken Stadium.
