(Norwich, Conn.) -- In perhaps the most entertaining night at Dodd Stadium this year, Norwich Navigators fans successfully set a new Guinness Book World Record for the Most People Wearing Groucho Marx Glasses. The entertainment act Legends of Vaudeville led the effort by rallying 2,748 fans to participate, shattering the previous mark by nearly 1,000 people.

"This is what minor league baseball is all about and this is type of interactive promotion that we will be looking to do this entire season under our new ownership group," said Keith Hallal, general manager of the Navigators.

Specifically, fans were instructed to put on their glasses for 20 minutes during the fifth inning. Photographs and video were then taken in order to document the record-breaking performance. The Navigators now await official confirmation from the Guinness Book of World Records office in England to credit them with the New World Record.

Gators fans surpassed the previous attempt of 1,827 achieved by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A, South Atlantic) more than two weeks ago on June 7. Prior to that, Michigan High School students in East Lansing set the official World Record of 937 people in 2003.

Throughout the game, Legends of Vaudeville actors Jeff Gardner and Jerold Goldstein entertained fans with their Marx Brothers comedy routine. Both actors have had distinguished careers, appearing in several Broadway productions. For further information, visit www.legendsofvaudeville.com.

In addition to the Guinness Book World Record and Friday Night post-game Fireworks, the Navigators beat Portland 3-2 on a walk-off home run by A.J. LaBarbera in the bottom of the 9th. His home run followed a two-run home run by Tyler Von Schell that tied the game.

The Navigators are the Double-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, celebrating their 11th season in Connecticut. Tickets for all home games are now available by calling 860-887-7962 or by visiting www.gators.com. Group outings, corporate picnics and skybox rentals are also currently on sale. In addition, appearances by both team mascots, Tater the Gator and Rally the Raven, are available for various children's events.
