Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- After a week that has seen the Pelicans make a bevy of moves the Birds have made a couple more. Catcher Xan Barksdale has been promoted to Myrtle Beach from A-Rome, giving the Pelicans three active catchers on the roster. Barksdale joins the Pelicans in Wilmington, Delaware just in time for tonight's doubleheader against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Glenn Tucker was promoted to AA-Mississippi after tossing in Thursday night's game. Tucker rejoins the M-Braves, which is where he started the '05 season.

Barksdale was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent in 2004 after playing his college ball at the University of Mississippi. Xan spent last year with the GCL Braves where he hit .255 with two HR's and four RBI in 20 games. Barksdale began this season in Rome where he hit .222 in just two games. With Miguel Bernard on the DL Braksdale will spend time as the third catcher behind Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Alonzo Ruelas.

Tonight the Pelicans take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5:05 pm with all of the live play-by-play able to be heard on ESPN Radio 93.9 FM, 93.7 FM and 1050 AM "The Team" or online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com.
