Mike Bell Joins Bisons as Player/Coach

The Cleveland Indians announced today the signing of Mike Bell as a player/coach for the Buffalo Bison.

Bell, 31, played in 19 Major League games with the Cincinnati Reds in 2000, hitting .222 (6-27) with two home runs and four RBI. He has also played in 1223 career minor league games, hitting .265 (1195-4501) with 262 doubles, 32 triples, 135 home runs and 683 RBI. Bell, originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the June, 1993 free-agent draft, was invited to the St. Louis Cardinals spring training in 2005. He retired about three weeks into the season.

Bell is a third-generation Major League player. His grandfather, Gus, played for Cincinnati from 1953-61. His father, Buddy, played 18 season in the Majors, managed in Detroit (1996-98) and Colorado (2000-02) and is currently serving as the Cleveland Indians bench coach. His brother, David, is a former Buffalo Bison (1995) and currently plays for the Philadelphia Phillies.
