Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Frederick, MD--- For the first time in 2005, the Wilmington Blue Rocks played a team within their own division and dropped a 6-4 decision to the Frederick Keys in front of an announced crowd of 1,1976 fans at Harry Grove Stadium on Thursday night.

Anibal Sanchez (1-1) allowed five earned runs on seven hits over four innings of work and suffered his first loss of the season. Frederick touched up Sanchez for a run in the first inning on three straight two-out singles. Dustin Yount drove in the Keys first run with a RBI single that scored Nick Markakis from second base.

In the third inning, Mario Delgado drilled a grand slam home run off of Sanchez to give the Keys a 5-0 lead. It was Delgado’s third home run of the season and the second grand slam allowed by a Wilmington hurler this year.

Richard Stahl (2-1) allowed four runs over five and a third innings and notched his second win of the season. The 24-year-old walked three, struck out two and exited the game after allowing a three-run home run to Wilmington’s Chad Spann in the sixth inning. It was Spann’s second home run of the year and pulled the Blue Rocks to within a run, 5-4.

The Rocks threatened to score in each of the last three innings against the Frederick bullpen, but failed to score.

In the eighth, Chris Britton entered with two on and two out and struck out Dusty Brown for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Frederick added to their lead on a two-out solo home run by Tommy Arko off of reliever Pete Fisher.

The Rocks loaded the bases with three walks against Britton in the ninth inning before he was removed for Chris Piersoll, who got Jeff Ontiveros to pop out for the final out of the game.

The Keys and Blue Rocks continue their four-game series on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Jarrett Gardner (0-0, 2.45) goes to the mound for the Blue Rocks. Freddy Deza (0-2, 3.38) takes the ball for Frederick.

Game Notes: Scott White went 1-for-3 with a walk to extend his hitting streak to 11 straight games.

The Rocks are now 3-5 away from home.

The five Frederick hurlers combined to walk eight Wilmington hitters on the night, but only one eventually scored.

Felix Romero and Randy Beam combined to work three and two-thirds innings of two-hit scoreless baseball.

The Blue Rocks are 3-3 against left-handed starters this season.
