Halifax Mooseheads to retire TanguayÂ’s #18

The Halifax Mooseheads announced today that they will retire NHL star Alex TanguayÂ’s #18 Mooseheads jersey in a special ceremony to be held before the game on Friday, February 25th game versus Drummondville at 7:00pm.
“We are pleased to honor Alex Tanguay by retiring his #18 jersey”, said Halifax Mooseheads majority owner Bobby Smith. “He is a big part of the Mooseheads tradition and our fans as well as our organization take great pride in his NHL accomplishments.”
Tanguay played three years in Halifax spanning the 1996-1999 seasons. While with the Mooseheads, Tanguay recorded 101 goals, 113 assists in 152 games. He also represented the Mooseheads at the 1998 World Junior Championships and was the highest pick the Mooseheads have ever had drafted into the NHL (12th overall by Colorado in the 1998 Entry Draft).
Tanguay has played five seasons in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche accumulating 108 goals, 214 assists in 379 games. His NHL career is highlighted by a game seven Stanley Cup hat trick as his Colorado Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 3-1 to win the NHLÂ’s top prize.
