Tike Redman Figurine Night Set For Friday

Nashville Sounds News Release
The Nashville Sounds will honor a recent fan favorite when the team hosts its second of three action figurine giveaways scheduled for the 2004 season this Friday. Six-inch statues of a sliding Tike Redman, sponsored by Watson's, will be distributed at Greer Stadium prior to the team's 7 p.m. game against division-rival New Orleans (AAA-Astros).
Very popular among fans in Middle Tennessee, the 27-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder batted .281 (443-for-1575) in 392 games with the Sounds over the course of four seasons from 2000-03.
Tike is Nashville's all-time leader with 32 three-baggers over his four-year Sounds career, ranks 2nd in club history with 103 steals, and is third all-time with 443 hits. The speedy outfielder also ranks among Nashville's career top ten leaders in: games played (7th w/ 392), at-bats (4th w/ 1575), runs scored (5th w/ 215), and doubles (T-9th w/ 63).
Redman became the first player in Nashville Sounds history to hit for the cycle when he accomplished the feat on June 30, 2001 at Tucson. Other Sounds highlights include being named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team in 2001, pacing all PCL batters with 11 triples in 2000, and leading the Pirates organization with 42 steals in 2003.
After an August 1st call-up to Pittsburgh last summer, Redman made an immediate splash with the Pirates, racking up 76 hits in August and September to tie Toronto centerfielder Vernon Wells for the most in the majors during that span. It was a remarkable feat for a player who had been dropped from the 40-man roster the previous winter and had hit only .238 in 143 at-bats in his previous major-league trials with the Pirates.
The first 2,000 fans to enter Greer Stadium on Friday, July 2nd will receive the complimentary collectable. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the 7 p.m. game, which is also a Faith Night featuring a pre-game concert by Christian recording artist Plus One. The opening act will be Barlow Girl.
Tickets to all Nashville Sounds games are available online at www.nashvillesounds.com or by calling 615-242-4371.
