Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, February 25, 2004 - Reaching Out to Children is a program founded by Montreal Alouettes all-star defensive back Barron Miles. This program will see 7 players venture into 33 Quebec schools until April 30th. This week, the players will be in the Outaouais to speak with the youth about their future and the obstacles that face adolescents.

The players offer an unbiased ear for the children to share their feelings, and in turn our players will share their insight in hopes of helping them become critical thinkers and decision makers. In addition, the Als basketball team will play the staff/faculty team in a friendly game.

The lineup features All-Stars Barron Miles, Anthony Calvillo, Uzooma Okeke and Kevin Johnson. Other players such as Brad Collinson, Luke Fritz and Keith Stokes (last appearance in the community), will all also be taking part in the school visits.

Players followed an intensive training program with world-renowned Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Ron Clavier. Dr Clavier specializes in dealing with youth and adolescents.

"I feel that the Alouettes players are in a wonderful position to have a positive influence on the children. With a little extra attention, they can help raise a child's self-esteem and help them deal with issues they are faced with, we feel as though we can make a difference. We are going into the schools to discuss topics that are relative to the students' success in the classroom and with their peers," explained Barron Miles.

#31 BARRON MILES - Defensive Back (All-Star - 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003) Barron Miles holds a degree in early childhood development from the University of Nebraska. He is a four time All Star (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003) with the Montreal Alouettes and was the 2002 East Division Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Miles had another excellent season finishing first on the team for a third consecutive year with 6 interceptions. Miles is one of the most efficient defensive backs in the CFL.
