New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Zephyr offense came to life as the team snapped its club-record 13-game losing streak by beating the Memphis Redbirds 9-4 Sunday night at Zephyr Field.
New Orleans jumped out to an early lead in the first inning off Andy Gonzalez's two-run homer off Memphis starter Evan MacLane. They would get three in the inning, and three more in the third to go ahead 6-0.
The Z's crushed five home runs on the night, one shy of the Zephyr Field record, including back-to-back homers by Michael Ryan and John Lindsey in the third inning. It was the third time this season that Ryan and Lindsey hit back-to-back shots.
Michael Ryan was 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI to go along with his homer. Andy Gonzalez and Alejandro De Aza each had three hits, including a home run.
Willie Collazo picked up his team-leading eighth victory by pitching six innings, allowing only two runs on four hits. Collazo cruised through the first five innings despite the steady rainfall that began in the third.
The series will wrap up Monday at 11:30 am with Hayden Penn (RHP) scheduled to start for the Zephyrs.
