New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
In a game that saw three ejections, the New Orleans Zephyrs won their second straight over the Round Rock Express on Thursday, 6-5.
The Zephyrs grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by John Lindsey and Manny Mayorson and an RBI groundout by Matt Craig.
Round Rock responded in the top of the second with a towering home run by Yordany Ramirez, his third of the series.
Zephyrs catcher Brett Hayes took exception to the way Ramirez paused to admire his home run, leading to an altercation at the plate as Ramirez came around to score. Ramirez shoved Hayes and was immediately ejected by home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez as both benches emptied.
Zephyrs starter Daniel Barone then hit the next batter, Matt Kata, with a pitch and was also ejected by Marquez. Manager Edwin Rodriguez came out to argue, and was similarly given an early exit.
Things settled down after that, and John Lindsey homered off Jeremy Johnson in the bottom of the third to give New Orleans a 5-1 lead. Lindsey finished with three hits and three RBI.
Round Rock battled back with one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, closing within one run, but Nate Field pitched a scoreless eighth and Brian Sanches struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his third save.
Willie Collazo (2-0) got the win after yielding just one run and one hit in 3.2 innings in relief of Barone.
The Zephyrs travel to Albuquerque for a four-game series starting Friday. Dallas Trahern will face Shawn Estes at 8:05 p.m.
