Zephyrs Defeats Grizzlies, 9-2

Metairie, LA – Jonathan Johnson drove in two runs and pitched a complete game allowing only one earned run to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs (25-17) to a 9 to 2 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies (18-22) on Saturday Night at Zephyr Field in front of 6,551.

New Orleans took a 1 to 0 lead in bottom of the second as Kyle Logan singled with two outs and scored on a triple by Raul Chavez. Fresno took the lead with a run in the third and fourth innings. Carlos Hernandez scored on a passed ball by Zephyrs catcher John Buck in the third and Lance Niekro had an RBI single in the fourth.

The Zephyrs would score three runs in the fourth inning as Alan Zinter doubled with one out. After a Kyle Logan flied out and Chavez walked, Colin Porter singled to right field to score Zinter. Chavez would end up at third and Porter would advance to second on the play as Grizzlies right fielder Francisco Santos threw wild to third. Johnson would single to right field to score Chavez and Porter and put the Zephyrs ahead for good.

The Zephyrs collected seventeen hits off four Grizzlies pitchers with six Z's starters having more than one hit. John Buck was 4-5 with 2 RBI as the Zephyrs defeated the Grizzlies for the second night in a row.

Johnson (4-3) would pick up the win retiring the last fourteen Grizzlies in a row. He scattered eight hits, striking out six while walking none. Former Zephyr Brian Powell (1-6) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies pitching four inning allowing seven earned runs on eleven hits.

The Zephyrs and Grizzlies conclude the four-game series on Sunday at 2:05 P.M. Sunday is Hibernia Kids Day with the kids getting to run the bases after the game. It is also the Ninth Annual Bark in the Park. Bring your dog out to the game and enter your dog into contests and great prizes.
