Zephyrs Defeat Isotopes, 2-1

Metairie, LA - Raul Chavez hit a solo home run to break a 1-1 tie in the seventh as the New Orleans Zephyrs (26-18) defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes (19-24) 2 to 1 on Monday Night at Zephyr Field.

Albuquerque scored in a run in the second off Zephyrs starter Brian Moehler. Isotopes third baseman Jason Wood led off the inning with a double off Moehler who was making a Major League rehab start. After Adrian Gonzalez popped out, Wood advanced to third on a groundout by Matt Treanor. Wilson Valdez singled to center to score Wood. Moehler threw 26 pitches in the two innings with 22 for strikes.

Moehler left the game after completing his warm up tosses to start the third when he felt discomfort in his elbow and forearm. New Orleans tied the game in the fifth as Royce Huffman scored on a single from Alan Zinter. The game stayed that way until the seventh as Chavez led off the inning with his second home run of the season off Isotopes starting pitcher Justin Wayne.

Miguel Saladin (3-3) picked up the win pitching two innings of scoreless relief. Kirk Bullinger picked up his fifth save of the season as he retired all six batters he faced. Wayne suffered the loss pitching seven innings allowing two runs, one earned on seven hits.

The Zephyrs and Isotopes continue the four game series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday Night is Twizzlers Two for Tuesday.
