NASHVILLE — The Nashville Sounds shut out the visiting Memphis Redbirds, 3-0, on Monday evening in the opener of a four-game series at Greer Stadium. The victory was the Sounds' fifth shutout of the season. All five have come at Greer, where they are 15-8 on the year.

Three Nashville hurlers combined for 11 strikeouts during the five-hitter, fanning every member of the Memphis starting lineup at least once.

Sounds starter Ryan Vogelsong fanned nine batters over six scoreless frames before giving way to Duaner Sanchez (3-1), who was awarded the victory following 1 2/3 innings of relief. Closer Mark Corey finished off the goose egg by working out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning before working a perfect ninth to record his 11th save.

Sounds left-fielder Adam Hyzdu broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh inning by belting his second homer of the year to lead off the frame against Memphis starter Steve Stemle. The Sounds tacked on two more runs later in the frame on Tomas de la Rosa's two-out, two-run single.

Stemle (1-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs and fanning eight in his 6 2/3 innings, as the Redbirds fell for the fifth time in five games at Greer Stadium this season.

The Sounds were unable to gain any ground on PCL East-leading New Orleans, however, as the Zephyrs defeated Albuquerque to remain one game ahead in the standings.

The teams meet again on Tuesday evening in the second game of the four-game set. Nashville right-hander John Wasdin (3-1) takes the hill to face Memphis right-hander Kevin Joseph (1-3).
