New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Iowa Cubs had back-to-back doubles to lead off the game, and Jason Dubois homered to cap a three-run first inning, giving the Iowa Cubs an early boost in their sixth straight win over the New Orleans Zephyrs, 8-2 on Sunday. Andres Torres led off the top of the first with a double off Zephyrs starter Willie Collazo, and scored on a double by Bobby Scales. Casey McGehee delivered a sacrifice fly to score Scales, and Dubois followed with a solo homer, his 23rd of the season, to put Iowa ahead 3-0.
Collazo (4-8) settled down over the next five innings, giving up only a home run to Micah Hoffpauir in the third. The Zephyrs southpaw took the loss, keeping him winless since June 9, by surrendering five runs on seven hits in a season-high eight innings.
Collazo provided the Zephyrs with their only run through the first seven innings, an RBI double to score Abraham Nunez in the fifth. It was Collazo's first hit in 21 at-bats this season.
Michel Abreu, out with an injured hamstring since August 4, returned to hit a pinch-hit home run leading off the eight inning, cutting Iowa's lead to 5-2.
The Cubs put the game out of reach with three runs in the ninth off reliever Tim McNab, capped by a two-run single by Torres.
Iowa and New Orleans meet in the third game of the series Monday at 7:00 p.m., with RHP Nelson Figueroa facing LHP J.R. Mathes.
