Rockford Lightning News Release

The Rockford Lightning today announced that they have signed guards Nick Zachery and Detrick White for the upcoming 2005-2006 CBA season, pending league approval. Per club policy, terms of the contracts are confidential.

Zachery, a 6-3 guard, is no stranger to Lightning fans as he is a graduate of Boylan High School in Rockford. After a stellar high school career, Zachery then took his talents to Arkansas-Little Rock where he averaged over 14 points a game in his last three seasons of play. Zachery was a participant in the last free agent tryout camp held in Rockford, where his talents stood out against some tough competition.

White, a 6-0 guard, comes to Rockford via Mississippi. White averaged 14 points a game for Mississippi State in the 1998-99 season and earned All-SEC Tournament Honors. Before his time with Mississippi State, White was named the 1997 NJCAA Player of the Year for Connors State College. After college, White has played in the IBL, ABA, and WBA. He was named to the 2005 ABA All-Star Game and was the 2005 WBA Defensive Player of the Year.

"These are two very good players," said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "They are both solid ball handlers who play the style of basketball that I am looking for. They both push the ball up the floor and make good decisions, plus they are both good defenders. Nick and Detrick might not be known to the casual fan but they are both well thought of as professionals and we are hoping they can come in and make the Lightning a better team this season."

Lightning season tickets are currently on sale. Ticket packages start as low as $63.00. The Lightning open up their home season on Nov.20th versus the Gary Steelheads at 7:05 PM at the MetroCentre. The Jesse White Tumblers will perform at half time. Any further comments or questions concerning this release, please call the Lightning office at 874-4232.
