Yuma Scorpions News Release

(Dublin, CA. July 25, 2008) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that INF Darrick Hale of the Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League has had his contract acquired by the Cincinnati Reds of the National League. The rookie infielder out of Cal State Los Angeles had been with Yuma for just over a month.

"Darrick is a fine young player with exceptional defensive skills and is a strong hitter as well," said Yuma Scorpion Manager Mike Marshall. "He's got a great future with the Reds and somehow slipped through the draft in June. We were glad to have him and showcase his skills during the last month."

Hale, 22, 5-10, 175 lbs is a shortstop who was not drafted after completing his senior year at Cal State Los Angeles this June. His senior season at Cal State L.A. was cut short by a foot injury March 22, at that time through 30 games he was one of the leading hitters in his conference batting .380 with eight home runs, 34 runs and 22 RBIs. He had a team-best .468 on-base average. Despite his shortened season he was still named to the All-California Collegiate Athltetic Association team. Fully recovered from his injury, he joined the Yuma Scorpions in late June after being bypassed in the major league draft. Appearing in 12 games he hit at a .325 clip with 3 home rums and currently owns an 11-game hitting streak, which has now been snapped by the Cincinnati Reds.

Hale is the 16th GBL player to be acquired by a major league organization in 2008.
