Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have agreed to terms on contracts with defenseman Chris Mann and center Chris Hodgson for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.
Mann, 26, is reunited with forward Craig MacDonald, his teammate the last four years at Elmira College. A three-year captain, Mann anchored the best power play in the ECAC Division III West Conference in 2004-05 as Elmira finished with a 21.5% conversion rate for the season. The Cornwall, ONT native tallied two goals and 14 points in 24 games with the Soaring Eagles before signing a contract with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League for the final three games of the regular season. Mann finished his collegiate career with 13 goals and 58 points in 96 games.
Hodgson, 21, posted two goals in seven games with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL last season before returning to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he tallied 11 goals and 19 points in 39 games with Acadie-Bathurst. The Fredericton, NB native made a splash in his professional debut by notching his first career goal to help lead the Everblades to a 6-2 victory over the Texas Wildcatters on Opening Night last year. Hodgson recorded 38 goals and 84 points in 193 career games between Acadie-Bathurst and Shawinigan of the QMJHL.
"There are two solid, all-around players that will make positive contributions to our line-up," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "Chris Mann is a tough, stay-at-home defenseman with excellent mobility, while Chris Hodgson will bring speed and grit to our front line. I am very excited with how our team is starting to shape up."
With today's signings, the RoadRunners currently have nine players under contract for the 2005-06 season with 52 days until the beginning of training camp.
RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams. Season tickets for all 36 home games are on sale now and start as low as $252. For more information, call (602) 462-GOAL or visit www.phxroadrunners.com.
