Young Stars Coming to Siouxland
January 6, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release
Some of the nation's best youth hockey players will descend on Sioux City January 15-18 as the Musketeers host the 2021 Sioux Cup.
26 teams from coast-to-coast will spend four days competing at the Tyson Events Center and the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, hoping to be noticed by scouts from the Musketeers and other teams in the league. The event will bring some exciting hockey to Siouxland and will have a meaningful impact on area hotels, restaurants and retail businesses.
"We felt a real sense of urgency to be creative and bring more elite hockey events to Sioux City" said Musketeers Managing Partner Lloyd Ney. "Sioux City is a great community to host these events and our hotels, restaurants, and other businesses can use the boost. We took the responsibility to the business community to do our part very seriously, so we're excited that we were able to pull this off."
The Musketeers held a smaller event in November for 12 teams, and have at least two more events planned for the end of January and February in addition to the Sioux Cup.
"The Tyson Events Center and IBP Ice Arena have been very helpful in the planning and execution of these events," continued Ney, "They understand that when we can host events, it means something to area businesses with the economic impact that they create."
While the impact on the business community is obvious, it's also a great opportunity for Musketeer scouts to watch players that may have a future in the USHL. "Having quality teams come to play in Sioux City is a double benefit for our staff," said Musketeers General Manager Andy Johnson. "We'll get to see some players that will someday be in our league and the players get an up close and personal look at the Musketeers organization and the city."
Games will begin on Friday, January 15th and continue through Monday, January 18th. The Musketeers will also host the Sioux Falls Stampede on January 16th at the Tyson Events Center.
