Doubling up the Salvation Army
January 6, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - This week, The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls announced the first confirmed COVID-19 cases at its men's shelter. The news was a reminder that the organization continues to fulfil its mission amidst the stresses and strains of the global pandemic.
As a result, the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, 1650 The Fan, and the Waterloo Black Hawks will encourage donations to The Salvation Army for an unprecedented second consecutive month. In December, Black Hawks fans and 1650 listeners were asked to make donations of $16.50 to help the organization shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, create recreational activities for youth, respond to disaster situations, and more. In January, please consider another - or a first - contribution to The Salvation Army to help defray COVID-19 expenses.
"Just because there is a pandemic, the other problems The Salvation Army tries to address obviously don't go away. In fact, many of those issues are more complicated," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. "This winter, The Salvation Army is doing more than ever before, and with Slumberland and The Fan, the Black Hawks are proud to take this effort a little farther to help them."
The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls reports that it has provided shelter to 287 people during the pandemic, offering nearly 4,000 care management sessions to shelter residents, and providing clothing, personal care items, and substance abuse assessment to many. The organization also says the four residents and one staff member who tested positive for the coronavirus are currently only experiencing mild symptoms.
