York United FC News Release

Toronto, ON - York9 FC is pleased to announce the signing of forward Gabriel Vasconcelos to a contract, pending his international transfer certificate and visa. The Brazilian comes over from Sao Paulo-based club Corinthians, one of the biggest clubs of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, who took home the title last in 2017.

Born in Porto Velho, Vasconcelos joined the youth team of Fluminense, another Brazilian giant, at the age of 12, but it was at Corinthians' youth academy that he emerged as a goal-scorer with the under-20 team.

The 23-year-old has spent the last four years on loan to several teams, the most significant to Brazilian outfit Oeste, where he made 30 appearances.

"We are delighted to announce Gabriel as a new signing," said York9 FC Manager Jimmy Brennan. "It is a fantastic win for us and the league to have a player to have come up from such a prestigious youth system as Corinthians, one of the giants in South American football. He's a very dynamic player, good on the ball, and can finish and put the ball in the back of the net. We're really excited to have him and can't wait for everyone to see what got us so eager to sign him when we scouted him."

Club Chairman Mike Baldassarra was also pleased with the new signing. "I'm thrilled to have Gabriel join the club and be a part of our community. His experience coming through the ranks with two of the top teams in Brazil is incredible. I can't wait to see him on the pitch and representing us - it is a massive statement for the league that a player like Gabriel wanted to come to Canada and play in the Canadian Premier League."
