Yerson Mosquera Called up to Colombian National Team
June 5, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Cincinnati News Release
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati defender Yerson Mosquera has been called up to the Colombia Men's National Team ahead of two International Friendlies against Iraq and Germany in the upcoming FIFA June International Window, the federation announced today. Colombia will face Iraq on June 16 at the Estadio Mestalla in Valencia, Spain and Germany on June 20 at FC Schalke 04's Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
The Apartadó, Colombia native earns his second senior call-up for La Tricolor. He could make his first senior international cap, should he appear in either friendly. Mosquera made two caps with the nation's U-20 side in December 2020 and scored one goal in the two friendlies he appeared in against Ecuador's U-20 squad. Mosquera was one of two players called in by Head Coach Néstor Lorenzo who play in Major League Soccer, alongside Juan David Mosquera from the Portland Timbers.
Mosquera, 22, has made 15 appearances for FC Cincinnati this season, arriving on loan from the Premier League's Wolverhampton Wanderers this February. Mosquera has helped anchor an FC Cincinnati defense which has kept eight clean sheets in 16 MLS matches in 2023, allowing just 15 goals, tied for the fourth-fewest in Major League Soccer. He has also scored two goals, both coming from a header off a corner kick.
