Yard Goats Hit Four Homers But Lose 5-4

Reading, PA- The Yard Goats cranked four home runs, including back-to-back shots in the ninth inning, but fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 5-4 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Brenton Doyle smashed two homers, Michael Toglia tied the Yard Goats single season record with his 22nd homer, and Kyle Datres went deep as Reading defeated Hartford for the second straight game. Down 5-2 in the ninth inning, the Yard Goats started the inning with consecutive home runs and had two runners on base when the game ended.

Reading scored a run in the first inning as Aldrem Corredor singled home Simon Muzziotti to make it 1-0 off Yard Goats starter Mike Ruff in his Double-A debut. The Fightins added a run in the second on Johan Rojas' triple and Jhailyn Ortiz belted a two-run homer in the third to make it 4-0.

Fightins starter Ethan Lindow did not allow a run over the first four innings. Brenton Doyle started the Yard Goats scoring with a homer in the fifth inning. Kyle Datres homered in the seventh and it was a 4-2 game. Reading added a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 5-2.

Hartford started the ninth inning with consecutive homers by Michael Toglia and Brenton Doyle to make it a 5-4 game. Daniel Montano and Willie MacIver singled but Matt Seelinger came in and retired the final two batters for the save.

The Yard Goats play the final game of the six-game series on Sunday night at 5:15 PM. RHP Mitch Kilkenny will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Noah Skirrow will start for the Fightins. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin Donuts Park on Tuesday, August 16th to host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
