The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (5-5) take on the Milwaukee Iron (4-6) on Saturday, June 13th, at the Cox Convention Center. Kickoff is set for 7:05 pm CST. Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting all-time between the two teams.
The Yard Dawgz are coming off their first win in over a month after starting off the season to a franchise best record of 4-0. The Dawgz defeated the Southwest Division leading and #5 ranked Arkansas Twisters (7-3), 56-54. Oklahoma City got two key defensive stops late in the game, including a fumble recovery in the end zone as Arkansas attempted to close in on the Dawgz lead. Dawgz veteran WR Al Hunt had a game high 136 receiving yards on 8 catches with 5 total TDs, including one rushing touchdown.
This week's matchup against the Milwaukee Iron will showcase the leagues best defense against one of af2's top offenses. The Dawgz enter the game with the league's third ranked total offense (322 ypg) and are first in af2 in rush offense (45.6 ypg) and fourth in pass offense (276.4 ypg) The squad will have a tough test against the leagues #1 ranked total defense, as the Milwaukee Iron hold their opponents to just 228.7 ypg. The Iron also boast arenafootball2's first ranked pass defense (208.6 ypg) and sixth ranked rush defense (20.1 ypg).
"We're playing a team in the same position as ourselves," said Head Coach Sparky McEwen. "We're both fighting for our playoff lives. A victory over the Iron would be a major shot in the arm in the right direction."
