Sharks Release QB Cooper

Corpus Christi Sharks News Release

In a joint announcement from Vice President/General Manager Larry Linde and Head Coach Michael Trigg the Sharks have decided to go in a new direction at Quarterback. The team announced that they have released QB Gary Cooper and decided to go with Lehigh Rookie Sedale Threatt.

"We have to start playing better and start taking care of the football", said Trigg. "We have an obligation to our fans and sponsors to put players on the field that take responsibility for their actions, and that have a team concept. At this point Sedale represents that player", Trigg added.

The Sharks are a disappointing 2-8 after the latest loss to the Bossier Shreveport Battle Wings. Coming in to the 2009 season the Sharks had numerous expectations, the first of which was the franchise's first trip to the post season. Despite the disappointing record, the sharks sit just 2 games out of the final playoff spot.

New Sharks QB Threatt during Sharks Overtime, which airs on ESPN 1230, had this to say about the task laid out for him by Coach Trigg. "I am going to go in there and lead by example and take control of this offence". "Bottom line, I'll do whatever it takes to win", he added.

In addition to the release of Cooper, the Sharks also placed defensive lineman Darius Robinson and defensive back Roshawn Marshall on team suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team". Further details of the suspensions were not released.

Threatt will get his first professional start this Saturday at the American Bank Center when the Sharks take on their hated rival Rio Grande Valley.
