Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-1) take on in-state and Central Division rival Tulsa Talons (5-1) this Saturday, May 9th, at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. Kickoff is set for 7:05pm CST. Saturday's contest marks the 14th time the teams will face off. Tulsa leads the all-time series 8-5.
The Yard Dawgz suffered their first loss of the season to the Rio Grande Valley Dorados, 74-73, in what was an exciting, high scoring affair with all the last minute drama arena football fans are accustomed to. The Dawgz will work to correct any miscues as they take on their archrival, the Tulsa Talons, this Saturday in their first road game in over a month. The Talons will be looking for revenge after last season's loss to the Yard Dawgz, when the Dawgz scored twice in the final four seconds, including DB Fred Shaw's TD grab off the net as time expired to seal the game in Oklahoma City.
"This is a big divisional game for us," commented Head Coach Sparky McEwen. "This game is gonna have some major implications on the divisional champion this early in the season."
The game this Saturday pits two of the top receivers in the league against one another. The Talons must contain the af2's second leading scorer all-time, WR Al Hunt, if they hope to win. Hunt is only two points shy of Central Valley's George Williams for the lead with 1,166 points. Last week against the Dorados, Hunt had eight catches for 159 yards and 5 TDs. The Dawgz will have to stop Tulsa's all-everything threat, WR Jeff Hughley, who leads the af2 in all purpose yards (255.5 pg) and is currently fourth in the league in receiving yards (143.8 pg) and scoring (22.3 ppg).
