
Yard Dawgz lose to BattleWings

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz fell to the visiting Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings in front of a 6,684 fans at Ford Center on Saturday, June 21st. Despite their best efforts, the Dawgz were defeated 67-50 and fell to 3-9 on the season.
Yard Dawgz leading rusher, FB Freddie Rollins, was the first Dawg to score on a 16 yard run. Oklahoma City's defense held the BattleWings scoreless on their first drive. Yard Dawgz newcomer, WR Steve Smith, had a 13 yard reception for a TD followed by a Ben Scott PAT, and put the Dawgz up 14-0. An impressive interception return by DB Andre Burns put the Dawgz in scoring position, but a deflected pass led to Gray's first interception of the night and Bossier-Shreveport's first score of the game by WR Chavis McCollister. The final score at the end of the first was 14-7, Oklahoma City.The Dawgz started the second quarter with a 35 yard TD pass to WR Al Hunt. The BattleWings scored three times in the second quarter when QB Cooper found McCollister, Manwell Talbert, and Kenneth Williams in the end zone, but a missed field goal return by DB Andre Burns resulted in two more points for the Dawgz. The score after the first half was 27-23 Bossier-Shreveport. WR/DB DonTa Bright came up with Oklahoma City's only score of the third quarter on a 21 yard interception return. The BattleWings quickly answered back with a 25 yard TD to WR P.J. Winston. Two more scores by Bossier gave them a 17 point lead and ended the quarter 47-30. Hunt's 1 yard TD run brought the Dawgz within 10 and a huge defensive stop followed by another Hunt score brought the Dawgz within 3 points. The BattleWings pulled away with three more late quarter scores and despite a Dawgz score in the final minute of the game, the BattleWings came away with a 67-50 victory. The Dawgz are back home on Saturday, June 28th, to host the Lubbock Renegades; kick-off is set for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard by tuning into JOX 930 AM or www.jox930.com.
