Pioneers defeat Manchester 69-40-af2

(Wilkes-Barre) The Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Pioneers clinched the American Conference Eastern Division with a 69-40 victory over their division rival Manchester Wolves in front of 5360 at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre.

The Pioneers won their 18th straight home game and gave Head Coach Rich Ingold his 70th career coaching victory in less than 100 games coached in the af2.

The Pioneers defense put together a huge night, racking up four interceptions, a fumble recovery and five sacks, including two by ADT defense player of the game Justin Parrish to push the Pioneers past the Wolves.

Schutt Offensive Player of the Game Larry Kendrick pulled in 10 catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns, while Ryan Vena finished the game 20-32 for 251 yards and seven touchdowns. The Pioneers built up a big lead on Manchester then held on in the second half to clinch the division title.

Geisinger MVP Ryan Vena started the game with a touchdown pass to Larry Kendrick, the Manchester Wolves Steven Savoy then took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown and after the missed extra point the Pioneers led 7-6.

Wolves rookie quarterback James Pinkney's nightmare of an evening then began, when his first pass of the night was intercepted by reining LJS Ironman of the week Rich Musinski who took it to the house. The Wolves would turn the ball over four times in the first half with Pinkney throwing three interceptions and fumbling a snap that was recovered by the Pioneers.

Ryan Vena took advantage of the defense's play throwing five touchdown passes, three to Kendrick and one each to JJ Outlaw and Rich Musinski to give the Pioneers an insurmountable 45-19 lead at the half.

The Pioneers head on the road next week to take on the Florida Firecats Saturday night at 7:30. The Pioneers will return to the Wachovia Arena after a bye week on fourth of July the Pioneers take on the Peoria Pirates on Biker Night July 12th at 7:30.
