OKLAHOMA CITY-The #1 offense and one of the top three defenses in the af2 will compete this weekend when the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (6-4) head to Hidalgo, TX, to take on the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (9-1). The Yard Dawgz offense leads the af2 in pass offense (294.3 yds/game), total offense (319 yds/game), and sacks allowed (5). The Rio Grande Valley Dorados remain among the top defenses in the league. They are 1st in scoring defense (allowing 33 points/game) and sacks (41), 3rd in total defense (221.0 yds/game), and 4th in pass defense (203 yds/game).
Both teams are playing their best football of the season. The Yard Dawgz won 4 of their last 5 games and the Dorados have a 7 game win streak, with their only loss coming in late April.
The Yard Dawgz offensive line, led by former Oklahoma Sooner Barry Giles, has had tremendous success keeping QB Stan Hill upright. The line has allowed only 5 sacks this season, best in the af2. The only thing holding back this potent offense are the mistakes made each week. The Yard Dawgz are one of the most penalized teams in the league, averaging 9.3 penalties and 68.9 penalty yards per game. The Dawgz also have a -8 turnover margin which is one of the lowest in the league.
After 10 weeks of regular season play, the Yard Dawgz are continuing to make slight modifications to their roster, releasing OL/DL Andrew Rekuski and WR/DB Kenneth Williams. The team has recently been assigned FB/LB Joel Gamble (6'2, 260), Shippensburg University (PA), and QB Terrance Matthews (6'2, 225), Jackson State University.
