Blizzard Look To Improve Playoff Position

Green Bay Blizzard News Release
If the 2007 Arena Football2 regular season was over the Green Bay Blizzard (5-5 Overall, 2-2 Midwest Division) would definitely be in the playoff picture. The Blizzard are comfortably seated among the 16 teams with playoff bids. This season will mark the first in which the af2 has 16 teams participating in post season play. Eight teams in each conference will make the playoffs in 2007. In the American Conference the three division leaders will get the three top seeds. The five remaining spots will go the five teams in the conference with the best overall record. For the Blizzard this means that they would currently get the seventh seed and would travel to Quad City to play the Steamwheelers (7-4 Overall, 3-1 Midwest Division) in the first round of the playoffs.
Since the regular season is still in full swing though, the Blizzard still stand a good chance to not only move up the playoff ladder, but could still go on to win the Midwest Division Title. The Blizzard are currently one and a half games behind the division leader, the Quad City Steamwheelers. Other Midwest Division teams include: Louisville Fire (5-5 Overall, 3-2 Midwest Division), Fort Wayne Fusion (4-7 Overall, 2-3 Midwest Division), and Cincinnati Jungle Kats (1-9 Overall, 1-3 Midwest Division). The Blizzard take on the Fusion at home tonight, Friday, June 22nd at 7:30 pm CST. Elsewhere tonight the Steamwheelers host the undefeated league leading Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers. A week 13 Blizzard win coupled with a Steamwheeler loss would place the Blizzard only one half of a game behind the Steamwheelers for the Division lead. The Blizzard win/Steamwheeler loss scenario would set up a showdown for first place in the division in week 14 when the Blizzard travel to Quad City to take on the Steamwheelers on Friday, June 29 at 8:30 pm CST. The Blizzard defeated the Steamwheelers convincingly 44-14 on April 27 this season when the Steamwheelers came to Green Bay. The Blizzard will also take on the Louisville Fire in another key Midwest Division match up on Friday, July 20th. The Fire currently hold the head-to-head tie break over the Blizzard that could come into play in playoff seeding, but a series of Blizzard wins in these key upcoming games would allow the Blizzard to win the Midwest Division outright.
