Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - March the 4th marks an important day in Oklahoma City. A proposition to provide funding through a temporary one-cent sales tax to renovate the Ford Center, making it one of the best venues in the country for professional sports, concerts and special events will be voted on that day.
The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, who call the Ford Center home, are beginning their fifth season of arena football in Oklahoma City and are focused on the future. With the enthusiastic support of their fans, the Yard Dawgz are third in attendance in the arenafootball2 league. The franchise is looking forward to exposing the Yard Dawgz experience to a whole new fan in the Oklahoma City metro in the years to come.
"The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz are committed to a better Oklahoma City and we are excited about how the Ford Center improvements will give our existing and new fans an opportunity to have a first-class sports entertainment experience - for as little as $8 per ticket," commented Yard Dawgz owner, Phil Miller.
If approved by Oklahoma City voters on March 4, a temporary tax will commence on January 1, 2009 - the day after the temporary MAPS for Kids tax elapses. The tax will last 12 months, with an additional three months if the City acquires an NBA franchise. Over the
15 months, it will raise approximately $120 million. All improvements will be owned by the City of Oklahoma City.
The planned Ford Center improvements include the addition of restaurants, clubs, concession areas, suites and sky boxes, rooftop gardens, a warm-up basketball court, team offices and a 12,000-square-foot family fun zone.
Great arenas must adapt to ensure their events and their fans' experiences are top-notch. The Ford Center has served that purpose well in the six years it has been open. However, success in the future requires extended adaptability and competitive advantages.
The planned renovations to Ford Center will give Oklahoma City a competitive edge, greatly improve the fan experience and insure future success.
"One of the criticisms of the upgraded arena is that is for the rich. The Yard Dawgz have over 6,000 tickets to every game that are priced at just $8 per ticket," said Miller. "It doesn't take a millionaire to go to the Ford Center and enjoy a great football experience! This is one of the reasons I urge you to vote YES on March 4 - to bring vast improvements to the Ford Center."
The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz encourage all sports fans to vote YES on March 4.
