Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees pitchers struck out a season-high 15 batters in the team's 3-2 win over the Indianapolis Indians Saturday night at PNC Field.

Starting pitcher Dustin Moseley led the staff with 10 strikeouts over seven innings, en route to his third victory of the season.

"Tonight was just one of those nights where I thought, ‘Wow, I've got everything going-this should be fun,'" Moseley said.

Moseley allowed just one fly-ball out in the game, retiring 10 batters on groundballs.

"When I'm getting groundballs, I know my ball is moving. It's sinking and it's in a good spot," Moseley said. "For a sinker-ball guy like myself, when the ball is elevated, you tend to see a lot more fly balls and a lot of them seem to go a long ways."

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre started the scoring early, putting together a two-out, two-run rally in the first inning.

After Burres retired the first two Yankees' hitters, Eduardo Nunez and Jesus Montero lined back-to-back singles and David Winfree loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Rene Rivera followed with a two-run single down the left-field line to put the Yankees ahead 2-0.

Indianapolis responded quickly and loudly in the top of the second inning to tie the game.

Pirates' top-prospect, third baseman Pedro Alvarez, led off the inning and took a 3-2 pitch from Moseley over the right-field wall for a solo homerun.

Two pitches later, Indians first baseman Jeff Clement hit a homerun off the batter's eye in centerfield to tie the game at 2-2.

Moseley settled down after the two homeruns, striking out the next three batters and holding the Indians hitless until the sixth inning.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre would retake the lead in the third inning on the game's third homerun-a solo shot off the bat of centerfielder Greg Golson, his fourth of the year.

That would be all the offense Scranton/Wilkes-Barre needed, as Moseley would shut down the potent Indianapolis offense.

Moseley finished his seven-inning outing allowing two runs on just three hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters and walking two. He struck out six Indians looking.

"He had great stuff," Rivera said. "He threw every pitch he had for a strike, which makes him available to throw whatever pitch he wanted in whatever count it is."

The Yankees' bullpen picked up where Moseley left off, with Boone Logan and Jonathan Albaladejo combining to throw two hitless innings.

Albaladejo picked up his 20th save of the season, closing out the game by striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Albaladejo has been nearly automatic for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, converting 20-of-20 save opportunities while holding opponents to a .143 average. He has struck out 40 batters against only 11 walks.

The win also improved Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's record in one-run games to 18-5 on the season.

The teams face off again Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at PNC Field. Charlie Morton (0-0, 4.91) will get the start for Indianapolis, while Tim Redding (0-2, 4.24) will take the hill for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
