Big First Lifts Knights over Yanks

A four-run first inning propelled the Charlotte Knights to a 9-5 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Friday night.

Charlotte touched up Yankees starting pitcher Zach McAllister for six runs in 2 1/3 innings on seven hits. McAllister walked two batters and struck out one.

The Knights pounded out 14 hits, with six hitters collecting two hits.

Chad Huffman and Jesus Montero lead the Yankees offense, which tallied 13 hits of its own. Huffman went 2-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Montero went 2-4 with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored.

The loss ends Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's eight-game road trip, on which the team went 3-5. The Yankees are now 4-7 in June.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns home Saturday to take on the Indianapolis Indians in a four-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
