Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - Following a 30-minute rain delay the Tampa Yankees offense continued to pour over the Vero Beach Dodgers with an 11-2 victory. The Yankees bashed 15 hits and have outscored the Dodgers in the series 23-4. The series continues Monday at 7:00 PM on "Awful Night."

Cory Wade made his Florida State League debut on the mound for the Dodgers, but was greeted with a triple from Victor Hall on the game's first pitch. Hall scored on a ground out from the next batter. Wade seemed unfazed as he then set down the next seven Yankees.

In the third Hector Made singled with one out for Tampa and Hall followed with his second of four hits. A wild pickoff attempt advanced both baserunners before a sac fly brought in Made for a 2-0 advantage. Wade pitched out of further trouble by striking out Edwar Gonzalez.

However Mark Carroll led off the fifth inning with one of four triples for the Yankees. He scored on Made's sacrifice fly to center that gave Tampa a 3-0 lead. Wade again rebounded well before faltering the seventh inning.

Rudy Guillen led off that frame with a single. He scored on Carroll's second triple and made brought in Carroll with a base hit to right. Wade retired his final two batters but left with a 5-0 deficit.

Tampa then blew it open in the eighth against Jose "Jumbo" Diaz. Jumbo entered with a 2.18 ERA but by the time he left the game it was much higher. The Yankees tagged him for six runs on seven hits, including back-to-back home runs from Jared Greenwood (his second of the series) and Rudy Guillen.

Vero did not score until the ninth. Cory Dunlap drew a one-out walk from Gerardo Casadiego and Drew Locke doubled. Dunlap scored on a wild pitch. Then Sergio Pedroza blasted a fly ball to center. Victor Hall leapt over the fence to rob him of a home run, but it did score Locke on a sacrifice fly for the 11-2 final.

Blake DeWitt went 2-3 with a walk. He has four of the Dodgers' nine hits in the series.
