TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (16-12) drop to three games back of first place after losing, 5-2, to the Clearwater Threshers (19-9) on Friday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
LHP Ian Clarkin (L, 2-3) surrendered five runs on eight hits in four innings of work, walking two and striking out four in his sixth start of the season.
The Threshers loaded the bases with no outs in the second. A double-play groundout by Drew Stankiewicz drove in Mitch Walding from third. Derek Campbell followed with a two-out, RBI double, giving Clearwater a 2-0 lead.
Tampa cut the deficit in half with a run in the third. Francisco Diaz reached on an infield single and advanced to second as the throw by first-baseman Zach Green rolled into the camera well.
