FORT MYERS, Fla. - In a battle for first place in the Florida State League South Division, the Fort Myers Miracle edged the St. Lucie Mets 2-1 on Friday at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh when Kevin Garcia led off with a double to center field that was initially caught by a diving Champ Stuart, but the ball popped out of Stuart's glove when he hit the ground. Garcia made it to third and scored on a sac fly Tanner Witt to put the Miracle up 2-1.

Amed Rosario led off the ninth with a single but Yorman Landa struck out Kevin Taylor and Wuilmer Becerra. Rosario got himself into scoring position by stealing second, but Landa struck out Michael Katz to end the game.

Fort Myers got on the board in the first inning on a one-out RBI single by Trey Vavra. The Mets tied the game in the second when Taylor doubled to right field, moved to third on a single by Becerra and scored on a double play hit into by Katz.

The Mets had a great chance to score in the fourth when they loaded the bases with one out, but Miracle starter Felix Jorge got Katz and John Mora to pop out on the infield with full counts.

Mets starter Ricky Knapp struggled with his command early, walking four batters in the first 2.1 innings, but he settled down. Knapp tossed six innings and gave up just three singles and one run in the no-decision.

Jorge shut down the Mets over seven innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

Landa earned his second save. Alberto Baldonado, who had not given up a run since the second game of the season, took the loss after allowing the run in the seventh.

Becerra went 2 for 3 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He has nine multi hit games in his last 11. He is batting .416 which is best in the FSL.

Taylor and Rosario also had two hits apiece.

One night after walking nine batters and committing three errors, the Miracle did not issue a walk, struck out 10 Mets and not commit an error.

The Mets (15-13) are now 1.5 games behind the Miracle (17-12) for first place in the FSL South. The teams meet in the rubber game on Saturday at Hammond Stadium at 6:15 p.m.
