Yan Can! Revs Grab Big Series Win On Rain-Soaked Night At Somerset

After waiting out three rain delays that totaled two hours and 37 minutes, the York Revolution clinched a series victory with a 7-3 rain-shortened eight-inning win over the Somerset Patriots on Thursday evening at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs are now within 4.5 games of Somerset for second place, and 6.5 games of Sugar Land for first place with 17 remaining in the first half. They'll travel to Southern Maryland to open a three-game series on Friday evening.

Trailing throughout the night, Salvador Paniagua gave the Revs the lead with a three-run homer off the right field foul pole on a 3-0 green light with two outs in the sixth inning. York starter Chris Cody responded with a scoreless inning, maintaining the Revs' 4-2 lead through the rain and wind in Bridgewater, NJ.

With first pitch delayed until 8:51 p.m., two minutes short of matching the latest start time in club history, the game had already featured a rain delay of one hour and 46 minutes at the outset, the sixth longest in club history, and fifth longest to start a game. Play was then halted for 21 minutes in the middle of the seventh.

When play resumed, Somerset rallied and nearly tied the game. Adam Donachie ripped an RBI single to center to make it a one-run game, but Cory Aldridge was thrown out at the plate attempting to score the tying run on a great throw from center fielder Ruddy Yan, and a tremendous block of the plate by Paniagua. Somerset manager Brett Jodie argued the call, resulting in his ejection.

Yan then blew the game open in the top of the eighth with a three-run triple to right-center, two batters before the game was delayed a third time, and ultimately called after waiting the mandatory 30 minutes to do so.

Cody (7-2) earned his fourth consecutive win, tying for the league lead with his seventh victory overall on the season. He earned a quality start, allowing three runs through 6.1 innings. He walked none and struck out six, and has now walked just one while striking out 28 in 27.2 innings on his current four-game winning streak.

The Revs trailed early in the game thanks to Patriots left fielder Aharon Eggleston, who homered to right field in the first and fourth innings, giving Somerset leads of 1-0 and 2-1. His second home run followed a York score, when Jeff Fiorentino (3-for-4) singled to right tying the game in the top of the fourth.

York 's Rick Zagone (1-0, 2.00) will face Southern Maryland's Michael Ballard (3-3, 3.60) in the opener at Southern Maryland on Friday evening.
