Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (26-39), presented by Towne Properties, took an early lead but could not maintain it in a 10-4 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers (39-24) on Saturday night.

Florence grabbed hold of a lead in the first inning against Schaumburg and starter Jackson Hickert (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K). The Y'alls made two quick outs before third baseman Brian Fuentes and first baseman Craig Massey drew back-to-back two-out walks. With two aboard in scoring position after a wild pitch, center fielder Ray Zuberer singled to right to drive in both runners. Right fielder Harrison DiNicola followed up the hit with a double of his own to drive in Zuberer and give the Y'alls a 3-0 lead.

Schaumburg began chipping away at the Florence lead in the second inning with its first run of the day. Facing Y'alls starter Ryan Watson (6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 K), the Boomers tallied back-to-back one-out singles from center fielder Brett Milazzo and third baseman Will Prater. The latter hit from Prater scored Milazzo to make it 3-1 Florence. The Y'alls held the lead through three, but Schaumburg tied the game in the fourth inning. After singles from designated hitter Blake Berry and Milazzo, Prater came to the plate again to single both home to tie the game 3-3.

The Boomers continued to add on runs in the late innings. In the sixth, Schaumburg scored two when Prater singled home Milazzo once again. Three batters later, second baseman Kokko Figueiredo drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to bring Prater home from third base. After six innings, Florence trailed 5-3.

Schaumburg increased its lead with two runs in the seventh. Blake Berry's RBI double and first baseman Kyle Fitzgerald's RBI single put the Boomers ahead 7-3. In the eighth, Schaumburg used a two-out error on Y'alls center fielder Lane Hoover to pounce for extra insurance runs. Florence scored a run in the ninth when third baseman Brian Fuentes' double drove home left fielder Hank Zeisler, but the Y'alls fell short in a 10-4 defeat.

The defeat marks Florence's first series loss versus Schaumburg this year and its third straight series loss. The Y'alls can salvage a win on Sunday versus the Boomers in the series finale. First pitch from Thomas More Stadium is scheduled for July 30th at 1:07 p.m. ET.
