Sioux City, IA: The Sioux City Explorers announced earlier today that they have signed rookie infielder Scott Beshears. Beshears is the first player to sign a 2004 Northern League contract with the X's, although the team did exercise their 2004 option on 20 players.
Beshears, 24, graduated from Fresno State University in 2003 after leading the Bulldogs in hitting during his senior season. For the year he batted .351 with twelve doubles and nine homeruns in 52 games. The 2B/SS also played solid defense by committing only three errors over 133 chances. Beshears, a Fresno, California native, led his high school to a Valley championship in 1999 while hitting at a .405 clip.
