Sioux City Explorers News Release

SIOUX CITY - The Sioux City Explorers fell 6-1 to the Lincoln Saltdogs Saturday night at Lewis and Clark Park. The loss drops the X's to 32-32 (8-8 second half), and the win improves the Saltdogs to 38-25 (7-8 second half).

The Saltdogs jumped on top in the third inning, scoring twice. Paul Powell led off the inning getting hit in the head by a pitch. Powell would score on a Ryan Priddy single. Jay Yaconetti scored an unearned run when he came home on a Dan Meier error.

Lincoln would add to their lead in the visitors' half of the sixth, scoring four runs. After leading off with a double, Bryan Warner scored when Kevin Sullivan doubled to left. Brett Cooley was the next batter, and with one swing of the bat, scored three runs. Cooley's sixth home run of the year also drove in Sullivan and Josh Patton.

The X's would get on the board in the home half of the seventh, when Chris Grossman hit his sixth home run of the year. The Lincoln bullpen would relieve starter Lindsay Gulin in the eighth inning, and shut down the rest of the X's at-bats.

Sioux City starter Tom Lipari (6-5) took the loss for the X's. Lipari went six innings, giving up seven hits, six runs - one of which was unearned - walked one, and struck out two. Lincoln starter Lindsay Gulin (8-1) went seven innings, scattering five hits, allowing one run, striking out five and not issuing a walk.

Sioux City returns to action Sunday night when the Shreveport Sports make their first visit to Lewis and Clark Park. Game time is 5:05 p.m., and Karsten Gaarder (1-3) will take the mound for Sioux City.
