St. Paul Does it Again to 'Snakes

July 22, 2006 - American Association (AA)
St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

ST. PAUL, MN-For the second consecutive game St. Paul (9-6, 38-25) used a late rally to overtake St. Joe (6-10, 32-32), this time 10-3. Andrew Edwards was outstanding for St. Joe and Wil Quintana powered two home runs, but St. Paul used a Blacksnake error to aid a seven-run seventh inning for the lead.

St. Joe took the lead in the second when Wil Quintana leadoff with a solo home run for the 1-0 lead. After the next two batters were retired, Jefferson Infante, Denver Kitch and Jimmy Mojica had consecutive singles to plate a second run in the inning to make it 2-0.

In the third, Quintana hit his second home run of the night to make it 3-0. It was the first time a Blacksnake hit two home runs in the same game, and gives Quintana a league-leading 15 home runs.

Andrew Edwards did not allow a hit until the fourth inning when Nick Gretz hit a solo home run to make it 3-1. The score stayed that way as Edwards protected the lead into the seventh inning.

After the first two batters were retired in the bottom of the seventh, the next seven batters in a row reached base and all scored. With a 3-2 lead and two on base, a St. Joe error allowed the tying run to score and opened the floodgates for St. Paul to score seven times and take an 8-3 lead. The seven runs are a single-inning high allowed by St. Joe, and six of them were unearned.

The Blacksnakes are home-bound to host Sioux Falls in a three-game series at Phil Welch Stadium beginning Sunday night at 7:05pm. Jesen Merle (3-2) will take the ball for the 'Snakes against the Canaries' Aaron Garrison (4-4). The gates open at 6pm for the opener and the broadcast starts at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com and at the ballpark on 88.9 FM.
