Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, January 15, 2007 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion professional basketball team announced today that head coach Larry Anderson has been relieved of his duties.

A player and coach at the youth, high school and college level in Pittsburgh for over 40 years, Anderson was named the second head coach in franchise history on September 12, 2006. He compiled a record of 2-17 with the club this season.

"I'd like to thank Larry for his contributions," stated team General Manager Freddie Lewis, "but we felt it was time to make a change based on our record and team goals. We wish Larry the best in his future endeavors."

"We appreciate Larry's effort, but needed to make a change at this time," added team CEO Richard Hersperger. "It's a long season and, with the number of times we face the teams in front of us in our division, we feel there is still an opportunity to get back into the playoff hunt."

Anderson was an All-City performer at South Hills High School and played collegiately at Point Park from 1969-73. He served as an assistant coach at his alma mater from 1973-83. He was the head men's basketball coach at Carnegie Mellon University from 1983-90. He guided the Tartans for seven seasons and his 56 wins rank seventh on the school's all-time coaching list.

He also served as an assistant coach at Schenley High School from 1990-93, an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 1993-98 and prior to joining the Xplosion as the head coach at Woodland Hills High School from 2002-06.

The team also announced that assistant coach Pat Blue would not return.

The Xplosion will name a successor to Anderson on Tuesday. Freddie Lewis and the new coach will be available to the media.

The Xplosion return to the floor on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:35 PM against the Indiana Alley Cats at Mellon Arena. The game will be preceded by Fort Cherry versus Burgettstown High School at 5:00 PM. For more information call the Xplosion ticket office at (877) 410-9900 or visit www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
