Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 20, 2005 -- The Pittsburgh Xplosion defeated the Ohio Aviators 163-116, led by newly-signed Darius Mattear, who scored 28 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in his debut with the team. Armon Gilliam added 23 points as Pittsburgh (8-7) won for the third consecutive game while setting a season-high point total. The visiting Aviators fell to 4-7 despite getting 42 points from Jason Cornute.
The Xplosion announced four player signings today:
Darius Mattear, a 6' 7" forward who starred at the University of Texas-El Paso. He played last season in the ABA for the Mississippi Stingers.
Rollie Smith, a 6' 0" guard who was a Division II All-American at Clarion University, where he averaged 20 points per game as a senior. Smith joins to the Xplosion after leaving the Cleveland Rockers. He played last season in the ABA for the now-defunct Pennslyvania Pit Bulls.
Carlos Cogsdell, a 6' 8" forward from Homestead who starred at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.
Wesley Fluellen, a 6' 5" guard who starred at Robert Morris University and averaged 17 points per game last season for the Pennsylvania Pit Bulls of the ABA.
In other player transactions, the Xplosion today released Kyle Crawford, Maurice Carter and Shohn Williams.
