Memphis Xplorers News Release

BOSSIER CITY - The Memphis Xplorers of af2 picked up a huge divisional victory Friday night, defeating the Bossier City Battle Wings 69-29 before 3,211 fans at the CenturyTel Center.

Two touchdowns in the final minute of the first half sealed the game for the Xplorers, who never were seriously challenged again by the Battle Wings. Memphis's halftime lead of 35-9 proved too much to overcome for Bossier City, who were under constant pressure from the Xplorers' defensive line.

Xplorers QB Brian Jones turned in another solid performance, going 17-for-28 for 202 yards and four touchdowns. Jones also ran for two scores, and was named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game for the second week in a row.

Jones's main connection, Kevin Prentiss, played well once again, catching 7 passes for 87 yards and one TD. Prentiss was actually upstaged by receiving mate Robert Kilow, who accounted for 5 receptions for 35 yards and three total touchdowns, one of those coming on a 52 yard kickoff return for a score. Kilow was named the Army Ironman of the Game for his contributions on both sides of the ball.

The Xplorers defense was stellar throughout the evening, forcing six total turnovers by the Battle Wings and coming up with two sacks. FB/LB Lavante Epson accounted for one of those sacks, as well as numerous tackles for loss, and was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

With the win, Memphis moved their record to 2-1 on the season. The loss was the worst in the history of the Battle Wings' franchise, with their previous largest final deficit being 30 points.

The Xplorers will be in action again next Saturday, May 1st, at 7:30 PM, as they travel to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Tennessee Valley Vipers.
