Memphis Xplorers News Release
Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 are anxious to get back to their winning ways this weekend against a tough Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz team at the DeSoto Civic Center. Game time is schedule for 7:00pm, Saturday May 7th.
The Xplorers lost their first game of the season last Saturday at the MARK of the Quad Cities on a controversial closing play of regulation. Steamwheelers kicker Nick Gatto drilled a game winning field goal with no time on the clock to give Quad City the win.
Xplorers WR/DB Terrell Adams had a great game against Quad City, after sitting out the week before. His three touchdowns led the team, and his six solo tackles were equally impressive on the defensive side of the ball. Memphis quarterback Brian Jones threw for 241 passing yards and four touchdowns in the loss, and added two rushing TDs to his season total of seven. DS Scott Cunningham earned the ADT Defensive Player of the Game award with his two interceptions, tying him for the af2 lead with five.
Memphis Head Coach Danton Barto commented on the upcoming game, "this is a very important must-win game for us. Anytime you are taking on a division opponent at home, you need to get the win. It was tough for all of us to lose last weekend, but we have had a good week of practice and are ready to come out strong against Oklahoma City."
The Xplorers have been on the road for two straight weekends, and the DeSoto Civic Center will have lots of exciting things to welcome the team back. Country Ford will hold a chance to win a brand new Ford Explorer with their football target toss. Fans interested need to register at the guest services booth. Also, the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Team Xplosion Picture Calendar courtesy of Danny Thweatt's Transmission Services, and City Auto Sales. Happy Times Farm will provide a petting zoo during the pre-game, and kids and adults alike will also have a chance to play on the Fun Bounce in the parking lot.
Memphis is 4-1 on the season and atop the Mid West Division of the National Conference. Single game tickets start as low as $7. Call 662-280-9120, visit the DeSoto Civic Center box office, or log onto Ticketmaster.com today. All Xplorers games can be heard all season on SportsRadio WMC, the Mighty 790 AM.
